I had a conversation with a friend recently during which the topic turned to Islam. He noted that Islam was only about 1400 years old and started comparing it with what Christianity was like when it was the same age. We discussed similarities and differences (the differences being far more dramatic than the similarities), then moved on to something else. It was not until much later that one of the biggest differences struck me. It has to do with martyrdom. In short, Christian martyrs always die hoping to save as many people as they possibly can. Muslim martyrs seem always to die hoping to kill as many people as they possibly can.
